Our focus on digital adoption: adapting to covid-19

Startup support

Over the past few months, we have seen changes in SME demands for digital solutions with an increasing focus on digital adoption. As non-digital companies are exploring new technologies as both means of survival and long-term growth, this also brings opportunities for suppliers in the tech community.

But we need to make sure the right support is available to support those growing needs. Adopting digital is not just about searching for a supplier and paying for a digital solution. It’s about, first, understanding what solution is right, what functionality is required, and understanding how the technology can be integrated within the workplace to support staff.

While we know that technology can play a key role in helping firms operate remotely and finding new avenues for growth, we also know that there isn’t a “one size fits all” approach to tech. Among pressures of survival and revenue it can be difficult to find a safe space to explore new technologies without breaking the bank, or without spending hours on the internet trying to come to grips with what it all means.

Introducing digital adoption

That’s why at Sunderland Software City, we have decided to expand our focus to include digital adoption support. Our mission has always been to support the sustainable growth of technology and we’re committed to growing this support as demands change. This means that, alongside innovation, skills and business support, we will now also be growing our digital adoption services for the community.

This includes the delivery of multiple fully funded digital adoption programmes that help SMEs from a variety of sectors safely explore new technologies. We believe that by focusing on digital adoption, we can help SMEs find sustainable ways to use technology to survive and grow, while at the same supporting the tech SME community by increasing demand in tech & digital services.

Significant in our digital adoption activities is our new North of Tyne Digital Adoption Programme. Co-funded and in partnership with Digital Catapult and North of Tyne Combined Authority, SMEs in the North of Tyne can access 12 hours or more of fully funded digital adoption support, providing that safe space and expertise to explore digital as way of increasing productivity or revenue.

Appointing our new Head of Digital Adoption

To oversee our digital adoption support, we are excited to announce we have appointed Adam Hill as our new Head of Digital Adoption.

Adam has over 20 years of experience in helping individuals and organisations across the world make a difference through technology. Prior to joining us, he led on digital transformation activities through his role as CEO at Consult & Design for over a decade. He also recently started his own company, Digital Changemakers, to help voluntary sector organisations develop digital skills and strategies.

“Having worked globally supporting people to use technology, I am so excited and passionate about bringing that experience to my home in the North East. Digital adoption is as much about human behaviour as it is about technology, and with the right support it has the potential to improve productivity, reduce inequality and drive innovation for people across the region.

It is an absolute privilege to be working with an outstanding team and partners to deliver what promises to be ground-breaking work with organisations and businesses as they start or fast-forward their adoption of new technology.”
