Careers in tech

Wanting real industry experience to complement his university studies, Mutala signed up for a week of work experience with us at Sunderland Software City.

The Tech Talent X work experience  that Mutala took part in, offers hands-on experience and insight into the current tech landscape of the North East. Regardless of your available time or your educational background, Tech Talent X offers a tailored experience to fit your needs.

At the end of his week with us we sat down with Mutala to hear how his experience was.

What were your first thoughts about starting work experience?

“I wanted to have hands-on experience in the marketing industry and to know what goes on in the field. I hoped I would have something new that would complement my MSc Applied Computing degree that I will be finishing in July with the University of Sunderland.”

What was the highlight of work experience for you?

“My favourite moment was when I got to have a real-life experience of the Apple Vision Pro and motion capture technology. It was great seeing the different applications they can be used for such as with construction or the filming industry.”

What skills do you feel you have developed throughout the experience?

“I learned how to prepare a marketing plan, how to design blogs, and how to create a campaign. As an example, I did a campaign with 5G, using tools like infographics, LinkedIn videos, and designing blogs and newsletters. I was taught by Ali and Tash who were great at guiding me.”

What would you say to anyone unsure about attending the programme?

“It’s a really great opportunity. It’s not just a programme, it’s a lifetime opportunity, and once you start you will learn alot. I originally thought marketing was just communicating by face-to-face or emails, but now I know the ins and outs and that marketing is so much more. It can be innovating when used with technology.”

What is next for you in the future?

“I would like to try some new marketing courses that would allow me to do content creation, do more blogs, and infographics. In the long term, I would like to build upon what I have learned from this week and embrace how marketing can go a long way to build a business. It’s something that can be done digitally across the world.”
“I would be open to future opportunities that will help me build my career in marketing.”
